Artist
Jose Antonio Gurtubay
Gurtubay was born on July 22, 1956, in Mexico City. He trained as an architect at the Universidad de La Salle and holds a master's degree in Visual Arts from the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas.
Along his path he has completed various diploma programs and courses in: teaching methods for the instruction of architecture, a specialization in Higher Education, a ceramics course and an engraving course.
He has collaborated in the firms of Arq. Enrique Martorell Gutiérrez, Arq. Fernando Fernández Bueno, and Arq. Jorge Renner Mandelbaun, and in the founding of the López & Gurtubay firm from 1985 to 1987.
He was a member of the Research Coordinating Committee of the Universidad La Salle from 1986 to 1989. He has been a professor at the Escuela Mexicana de Arquitectura of the Universidad La Salle from 1985 to the present.
He was involved in the workshops of the Santa Catarina theater, UNAM cultural outreach, creating set design for the play "Las alas del poder" by Leonor Azcarate.
He received an Honorable Mention at the Cuitzmala 88 Visual Arts Prize, Guadalajara, Jalisco. Catalog, Imágenes Musicales, VI Festival of the Historic Center of Mexico City.
His work has been exhibited at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Hispano-Mexicano in Alagón, Zaragoza, Spain. Museo Papalote, children's museum, Cuernavaca, Morelos.

One of his most important works has been a bronze sculpture, a unique piece, titled "Madre Naturaleza" located at the Museo del Niño in Cuernavaca.
