Arturo Mendoza Elfeo
Arturo Mendoza was born in Mexico City in 1982. He moved to the city of Querétaro, and it was there that he found the opportunity to explore his creativity and express his ideas through paintings. During the sleepless nights he suffered over a long period, he wandered among concepts and techniques without limiting himself in his eagerness to find his own style.
“The only thing you cannot allow yourself is to be afraid of ruining it; only by ruining it is it possible to find the right accident, the one worth making your own”.
In 2001 he arrived at the community of Todos Santos. An artistic community located on the Baja California Sur peninsula, between the touristy Cabo San Lucas (Los Cabos) and the capital, La Paz, Arturo found the ideal place to establish his own gallery and finally forge his style.
Influenced by the surrealism of Salvador Dalí and the colors of Mark Rothko, Arturo gradually gave his own form and meaning to his oil paintings.
“I always sought for people to feel something when looking at my paintings, to identify with them, and to have the freedom to create their own version, and out of that eagerness my characters were born”
His characters came to light in the summer of 2001, and it is they who would set, to this day, a reference that makes his works unique and unmistakable. Based on body expression and the neutrality of their clothing, their lack of a face allows the observer to identify with them and give continuity to the story, making it their own.
“I don't like to interfere by telling my version of what I painted; I prefer to listen to the stories that are created by different people and to discover that, just as some coincide with my intention, there are others that take completely different but equally brilliant directions”
