Rosendo Vega
Of Guerrero roots, he arrived in Oaxaca at the age of 8; the place where he has developed professionally as a visual artist. At the age of 17 he entered the School of Fine Arts of the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca and Taller 910. In the year 2000 he founded, together with colleagues, Taller 910, a collective in which Rosendo takes part, which offers a different vision of art from the one generally seen in the city. He has participated in various workshops at institutions such as the Casa de la Cultura Oaxaqueña, the Rufino Tamayo Workshop, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Oaxaca, the Santo Domingo Cultural Center, an introductory ceramics workshop in Barcelona, Spain, among others, and in workshops with masters such as: Magali Lara, Raúl Herrera, Nicias Aridjis, Germán Montalvo, Juan Alcázar, Margarite Olivier, Adán Paredes, Jorge González Velázquez, among others.
He has more than 15 solo exhibitions and 54 group shows, among which are: “Diario de un Viaje” held in 2004 at the Casa Juárez Museum in the city of Oaxaca; that exhibition was the result of the work carried out during his stay in Spain. Another of his important solo shows is “Gestación y alumbramiento” which was presented in 2005 with great success at the Galería Arte de Oaxaca, showing in his work a maturity in technique and expression as well as a personal language fully identifiable with him. In 2007 he was invited to take part in Art Basel Miami; in 2008 he participated in the First Festival of Sister Cities of Guanajuato.
He establishes an experiential relationship with painting; he knows that to continue one of the oldest crafts in the world means to reinvent oneself, and his eagerness to experiment artistically has led him to use materials as a support for his work – sheets of zinc, in addition to typographic inks, sheet-metal combustion, varnishes, lacquers and resins, among others, as elements to give the pieces an incomparable personality. In this technique he presents “Abismos y criaturas” at the Regional Museum of Huajuapan de León; in 2010 the State Museum of Popular Art presented “Aquaria” secrets of the blue planet, and in 2016 the Palacio Museum “Transmutaciones incorpóreas”.
His work has visited cities such as: Oaxaca, Mexico City, Querétaro, Guadalajara, Chihuahua, Nuevo León, Mérida, Puebla, Guanajuato, Sonora, Chiapas, Tabasco, Veracruz, Acapulco, among others; and abroad in Granada, Ontario, Madrid, Barcelona, Miami, Ottawa, Budapest.
Some of the exhibitions in which he has participated abroad are: “Exposición Internacional de Artes Plásticas Valentín Ruiz Aznar” in Maracena - Granada, Spain in 2005. “Ocho Impresiones” at the Francisco de Vitoria University in Madrid, Spain. And “Plástica del Sureste Mexicano” in Barcelona, Spain. Both held in 2004.
In 2008 he presented at the Palacio Museum-Espacio de la Diversidad (City of Oaxaca) with “INMERSA” abysses and creatures, in which he shows his work carried out with a technique that he developed, which is based on inks, sheet metal and resins. At the end of 2008 he participated as a special guest in the First Festival of Sister Cities of Guanajuato, an event in which cities from all over the world took part. In May 2008 he presented “De mares y otros mundos” at El Greco Art Gallery & Exhibitions, Boca del Río, Ver. In 2009 he was invited by the Oaxacan fashion designer René Orozco to intervene two of his pieces; presented on the runway “TRAVESURAS DE UN NIÑO MUY MALO” By René Orozco, in Mexico City; in 2014 he created a clothing line with RO to be presented at google and fashion.
He has participated in exhibitions in Mexico City, among which are, “Artistas Oaxaqueños, Artistas Mexicanos” at VMW Santa Fe Müchen Motors. The AAF. “Primera exposición de arte” Juan Camilo Mouriño Terrazo Foundation. In this year he took part in the group exhibition SEGMENT 8 From the heart of México at MAMU GALLERY, Budapest, and he has been invited to art symposiums in Slovakia.
In 2008 he illustrated the cover of the book, using the resin-based technique, titled “Todo esto sucede bajo el agua”, by the author Rodolfo J.M., published by Fondo Editorial Tierra Adentro; he has likewise been published in the Tierra Adentro magazine of the same publisher, as well as in the magazine “Vuelo” of Mexicana de Aviación, Luna Zeta, among others.
In 2014 he produced and directed the portfolio “Los perros” focused on dogs; in it Rosendo Vega secured the participation of 31 artists.
In 2017, Vega participated in the first International Symposium of art held in the city of Oaxaca; in which he generated pictorial interaction and dialogue with artists from countries such as Japan, Slovakia, Budapest, France, Switzerland, Iran, Germany, the Philippines, Canada and Algeria.
