Leonardo Salinas
My vocation as a painter began at a very early age. In 2005 I moved to the city of Oaxaca, already with prior knowledge of established techniques and trends in art. I carried out my studies at the School of Fine Arts, completing them in 2012. Since then, I have independently devoted myself to the production of my visual work, which reflects elements of the place I come from: the heart of the Oaxacan Coast, Río Grande, Tututepec, Oaxaca.
My painting depicts the experiences of the Oaxacan peoples, where working the land and the connection with the earth are an essential part of everyday life. In my work, dreams are transformed into tales that arise from my thoughts, narrating the practices, customs, and languages of our Indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples. The horse is a fundamental symbol in my pieces, for it represents the soul of the peasant: his strength, his labor, and his spirit.
