Jose Antonio Farrera
Jose Antonio was born in 1964 in Mexico City. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Painting at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking “La Esmeralda” of the National Institute of Fine Arts, and a Master's degree in Visual Arts at the Academia de San Carlos of the National School of Visual Arts. His participation in group exhibitions exceeds three hundred shows.
Among his solo shows, notable are those presented at the José María Velasco Gallery of the National Institute of Fine Arts: Desde 1964 in 1994, and at the José Martí Gallery of the Ministry of Culture of the Federal District, Dibujos in 1996. His acclaimed career includes numerous awards and distinctions since 1992, when he received an Honorable Mention at the First Ramón Alva de la Canal Painting Competition. In that same decade he received the Production Prize at the National Salon of Visual Arts, at the National Center for the Arts (1998), and an Honorable Mention at the Second Alfredo Zalce National Biennial (1999). In the new millennium he won the Acquisition Prize at the First Pedro Coronel Painting Biennial (2008), a double Honorable Mention at the First Gómez Palacio Painting Biennial (2008) and an Honorable Mention at the Julio Castillo Painting Biennial (2008). He has been a grant recipient on several occasions, as well as a juror in various painting and printmaking competitions.
In 2010 he was admitted to the National System of Art Creators, one of the most notable distinctions awarded by the National Council for Culture and the Arts through FONCA. In 2013 Aldama Fine Art presented an exhibition of his most recent pictorial work, accompanied by the publication of a book with essays by Juan Carlos Pereda and Santiago Espinosa de los Monteros.
His work can be found in important institutional and private collections, such as those of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Council for Culture and the Arts, the Pedro Coronel Museum, the Domecq Cultural Institute, Nestlé and the Government of the Federal District.
