Jennifer H. Troice, a Mexican sculptor, was born in 1987 into an artistic family. Her first contact with the fine arts was through the piano and the harp when she was just a little girl.
She studied at the American School of Mexico City, which gave her her first opportunity as a visual artist. She took the IB Art program at the age of 16. There she discovered her vocation and passion: sculpture. During that period she sold her first work of art; this was the beginning of her prolific career.
In that stage (2005) she traveled to Boston to receive training at MASSART (Massachusetts College of Art), where she completed courses in casting, welding, drawing of the human body and printmaking.
Once her studies in that North American city were finished, she returned to Mexico to enroll in the Psychology program at the Universidad Iberoamericana, with the intention of delving deeper into the Psychology of Art.
Years later she received an invitation from the most important medical community in Mexico. A monumental sculpture commissioned by the ABC Hospital for the lobby of its Oncology building: "Imagina" is the title of this sculpture, which comprises two enormous bronze hands whose meaning deserves a special mention.
Bronze has been her working material. In it she finds the elegance and flexibility of time in space, where she sculpts. The artistic process and the sophisticated complexity of creating a sculpture is an immensely therapeutic mission that has led her to keep climbing higher.
Troice turns sculpture into an adventure in which she seizes the possibility of adjusting the aesthetics of the realities that confront her to her personal style and vision. She feels influenced by the simplicity and sophistication of Brancusi, as well as by the Cubist movement and its representatives.
Her first sculptural collection experiments with different styles as well as themes. Nevertheless, she emphasizes the importance of "feeling and provoking emotions" through the symbolism of her bronze sculptures.
The second collection, titled "En la Profundidad" (In the Depths), presents a particular style that she calls minimalist geometrism, in which she highlights the faces of the object, giving it a cubist and simple appearance. This collection was inspired by the sea. Here she captures the natural, defined and simple angles that flow even out of the water, so as to render them in the metal that immortalizes them.
To touch Jennifer Troice's sculptures is to enter into the depths of her sea, of its tones, figures, reliefs... those that in a singular way delight the senses of anyone who feels captivated by her work. |
