Jazzamoart
Jazzamoart was born on May 28, 1951, in Irapuato. Javier Vázquez Estupiñán adopted the pseudonym Jazzamoart (jazz, love and art) in 1974.
With studies at the Academia de San Carlos, from the 1980s onward, a defined and highly personal style placed him on the Latin American visual arts scene.
Considered by Carlos Montemayor to be one of the three great artists of Guanajuato, alongside Diego Rivera and Chávez Morado, his work includes participations and distinctions in museums and exhibitions such as the First Ibero-American Biennial of Miami, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the Tamayo Biennial, the Tour de la Bourse in Montreal, the Osaka Triennial in Japan, the Joan Miró International Drawing Prize in Barcelona, the Historic Center Festival Prize, the Bicentennial of the French Revolution Prize, the Bronx Museum of Art in New York, the National Salons of Painting, Sculpture and Drawing in Mexico, the Phoenix Museum of Art in Arizona, Europalia in Belgium, the Palace of Fine Arts Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico, the Hyogo Prefectural Museum in Japan, the Kereva Museum in Finland, the MARCO Museum in Monterrey, the Museu Do Brinquedo in Portugal, the Museum of Latin American Art in California and grants from SNCA CONACULTA, among many others.
Jazzamoart has shown his work in more than five hundred group and solo exhibitions, in museums and galleries in Mexico, Latin America, the United States, Canada, Europe, South Korea and Japan. He has created stage designs and visual improvisations for the leading figures of international jazz, such as B.B. King, Ray Charles and Diana Krall.
Jazzamoart's gestural language allows him, through his painting, sculpture and performance, to generate emotions both in art experts and in people approaching his work for the first time.
