Francisco J. Tejeda Jaramillo
Francisco was born on August 14, 1952, in Colima, Mexico. He began painting at the age of 16, creating commercial paintings for tourists in Tijuana, Baja California. He carried out this activity for 10 years; during this period he was a cycling champion on two occasions, in 1970 and 1971; he also worked as a water rescue specialist for the Red Cross.
In 1985 he was deprived of his freedom and took up art in depth. He began with the study of artistic techniques and materials, and so in 2003 he published the book “Los Materiales de Comprobada Permanencia en la Pintura al Óleo” (The Materials of Proven Permanence in Oil Painting), which is available on the internet.
Beginning in 1986 he resumed the practice of painting in a workshop provided by the authorities of the Reclusorio Norte and, with hundreds of books as his teachers, thus began his career as a visual artist, at the same time teaching painting classes to other inmates until his release in October 2016, after more than 31 years in prison.
Master Tejeda Jaramillo currently continues to teach classes in painting and artistic materials to both his former students and a new generation of painters, all without neglecting his pictorial production, which is at its finest moment.
In recent years, Master Tejeda Jaramillo has had a strong presence in traditional and digital media, generating great public interest in his work and story.
