Eliana Portilla

Eliana Portilla draws inspiration from the behavior patterns that occur in everyday life. Considering repetition as a resource drawn from these patterns in order to understand their origin, and turning to geometric abstraction, she works aspiring to satisfy a need for equilibrium and balance in her compositions.
Committed to specific processes she herself has devised, she starts from a space (support) in order to break it down through grids, which offer the beginning of an endless geometric game in constant transformation.

Through geometric elements (and their tradition in the history of culture), the artist embarks on a personal search aspiring to invoke beauty, truth, and spirituality. Likewise, she constantly reflects on the parallels between these abstractions and her own reality: such as the relationship between the scale of a space and its elements, or dualities like presence-absence and beginning-end.

Meditating on her own medium and the variants she can find within it, she aspires to continue a dialogue around these concepts (beauty, truth, and spirituality) through her works.
