Edgar Jahir Trujillo
An Oaxacan artist, born in the Isthmus region in 1987, from an early age his restlessness for drawing began to stir, and he went on to broaden it until it evolved into skill. Since his foray into art, he has maintained a steady output and career, standing out for working exclusively with pigments obtained from nature.
The strength of his work is drawn from the cultural and natural architecture that surrounds him, tinted with his characteristic liquid weave: the cochineal, with which he returns to his artisanal character.
The young artist has worked hard on his training for the past 10 years, and has taken part in various state, national and international exhibitions, notably “Art Basel” in Miami, “Latino Arts” in Wisconsin, “Cactus & Creatures” in London, “Light and color of Oaxaca” at the “Riihimaki” Art Museum in Finland, among others.
In January 2018, he was featured at the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes on the occasion of the exhibition “Rojo Mexicano”, which showcased the influence of the cochineal on the painting of great artists over three centuries.
In 2016, he was invited by the British production company Greystone TV to take part in the documentary “The Art Show”; the production of this series focuses on exploring the creative processes of contemporary artists who are standing out in different countries.
Edgar Jahir also creates artistic pieces on paper made with natural fibers, which allows him to show the connection between natural essences through art; for him the cochineal is, more than a tool, something he considers his subconscious.
