Álvaro

Studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts at the Centro de Arte Mexicano (2011-2015), completed the Program of Introduction to Artistic Practice at Centro ADM (2016) and a diploma in Commercial Strategy at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (2016). Carried out social service at the Galería Hilario Galguera and, between 2011 and 2015, attended courses taught by Mónica Castillo, Enrique Chagoya and Maho Maeda in different fields of artistic production. Their work has been shown in group exhibitions at AutoArt 2017, in Polanco, CDMX (2017), the HÍBRIDO exhibition in Lomas de Chapultepec, CDMX (2017), the ETHOS art fair, at Expo Bancomer, CDMX (2016), DIÁLOGOS in Lomas de la Herradura, CDMX (2016), Casa Frissac, CDMX (2015), the Museo de la Acuarela Alfredo Guati, CDMX (2015), the Polyforum Siqueiros, CDMX (2014), the offices of the Reforma newspaper in Mexico City (2014), the Centro de Arte Mexicano, Mexico City (2012), the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico City (2010) and the Archivo General de la Nación, CDMX (2010). As solo shows, they presented MÉXICO KITSCH, at the Galería Carlos Corral, Mexico City (2017), NADA ES VERDAD NI MENTIRA, TODO ES SEGÚN EL COLOR DEL CRISTAL CON QUE SE MIRA, on an entire 1,400 m2 floor of the Corporativo Capital Reforma in Mexico City (2017), the Universidad Anáhuac Norte y Sur, Mexico City (2017), HAPPIN€S$ AND IT’S CURIOUS PHENOMENOLOGIES in Polanco, CDMX (2015), Florence, Italy (2011) and the premises of the Colegio Alemán Alexander von Humboldt (2010).

STATEMENT
My work revolves around the conviction that the objects of everyday life and popular consumption can give rise to reflections and dialogues under the premise of Art. I address the questioning of concepts derived from the dynamics of consumption and the subjective value of things, including the structures of art and its market. I carry out an inquiry into the relationship between production, acquisition and its economy, with a special interest in Mexican popular culture.
