Alberto Aragón
Alberto Aragón was born in the city of Oaxaca, in 1980. During his youth he enters the School of Fine Arts of the city, but chooses to learn the elements that make up the visual arts on his own. To this end he turns to the master stonemasons of Etla, where he gains knowledge relating to sculpture. He likewise trains in artistic drawing and in color theory.
Once his talent as an artist becomes apparent, he travels to Denmark, where he is welcomed into the workshop of Jens Galshiot, who sees in Alberto Aragón's work the expressiveness and character of an authentic artist. This is reflected in his collaboration on the important sculptural ensemble “Tin Soldier, The Little Mermaid, Clumsy Hans” at the Hotel Hans Christian Andersen, in the city of Odense, Denmark.
He is likewise the author of “Monument of duality” located in the European city of Svendborg and of the monument to “8 Venado Garra de Jaguar” adopted as an emblematic symbol by the municipality of Tututepec, in the coastal region of Oaxaca.
In Europe he becomes acquainted with the painting of Rembrandt, Goya, Caravaggio, Kurt Trampedach, and Odd Nerdrum; figures who, together with the Oaxacan masters Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo, and Alejandro Santiago, are fundamental to his self-taught training.
In Denmark he is invited to carry out artistic projects aimed at the defense of humanism. In the Palestinian region he collaborates on the creation of a series of murals belonging to the “Defacing the Wall” project. He has also taken part in sculpture symposia in the Czech Republic and Denmark. His pictorial and sculptural work takes on the exacting standards proper to an artist of international stature.
The artist's work is exhibited in important galleries in Mexico, Denmark, and the Czech Republic (Galería Arte de Oaxaca, Casa Lamm, Kunstgalleriet-Odense-Denmark, Hemmelige Galleri-Herning-Denmark, and Visio Art Gallery-Czech Republic).
The painting of Alberto Aragón expresses the character of the beings he paints; his first-intention brushstroke reflects a mastery of color, texture, and composition. His attention to accidents endows his work with vivacity without losing the form of the things represented, combining, moreover, different styles until his work is defined under the temperament of one who, in learning about the visual arts, learns about himself.
He currently resides in the city of Oaxaca. His pictorial work forms part of important collections, such as: Galería Galshiot, the Figueroa Hernández collection, the NIVADA® collection, the Hemmelige Galleri collection, and the Kunstgalleriet collection.
His monumental work is a hallmark of the cities of Odense and Svendborg, in Denmark, and of the towns of Nectiny in the Czech Republic and Tututepec-Oaxaca in Mexico.
The artist's work attains a constant balance between composition, immediate brushstroke, accident, form, and symbol. In his painting the artist expresses an animal and human character that merge into one so as to reveal the essence of what is represented there.
